Meet Me At The Pakenham Owl
James & Elanor Avery’s Meet Me at the Pakenham Owl sculpture symbolises both onward travel and its return to nest, and its status as a guide can be a metaphor for a place of meeting. The Pakenham Owl’s eyes also echo the rising sun which can be symbolic of the origin of Cardinia Shire’s name, as it is derived from the Kulin word ‘Kar-din-yarr’, meaning ‘look to the rising sun’ or ‘sunrise’, thereby tracking the journey of the sun across the sky and the east-west direction of the Pakenham rail line. It carries a strong visual relationship to the architecture of the new station and the surrounding undulating landscape.
