Exhibited for the first time in his solo exhibition, ‘Surf and Turf’ at The Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Sebastian Di Mauro’s Furl/Ripple combines beach and backyard, two quintessentially Australian spaces.

Fabricated from 6mm marine grade aluminium and covered with astroturf and neoprene, the large undulating sculptural form falls in waves from the ceiling, down the wall and out along the floor. The playfully imposing piece, with its perfectly shaped pools of neoprene and manicured astroturf, alludes to the ‘Great Australian Dream’, the desire to tame and transform nature and more personally, Di Mauro’s experience growing up in Australia with immigrant parents.
