Lakeside Shopping Precinct,

Joondalup, Western Australia

Located at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Joondalup, Donna Marcus’ work, Sponge continues the artist's interest in the overlap that exists within the aesthetics of the organic and mechanical.

In form it recalls the pattern of golf balls and sea sponges, but also the surfaces (soft and hard) visible in the natural and built environments of the Joondalup area.

Sponge is a cast aluminium sphere standing at 3 metres in diametre with convex and concave colander shapes to allow internal lighting and misting.

Sponge was made possible by the collaborative efforts of artist Donna Marcus, Griffith University and Mike Mooney of Stainless Aesthetics.
